Hi, Iām Melinda Lavon, certified Professional Midwife in Kansas.
Maybe you have been attending births as a doula and you are ready to make a change. Maybe you have birthed with midwives and you are ready to serve others. Or maybe you just know being a midwife is right for you!
We need more midwives. Now more than ever, prenatal care is difficult to come by - but YOU could become the difference in your community and region.
If you are considering becoming a CPM, or Certified Professional Midwife, you can attend distance learning programs from a few universities - but they can cost tens of thousands of dollars in tuition alone.
This program will provide you with the basic scientific knowledge you need to enter apprenticeships and do well, develop skills and protocols, and complete your training and certifications.
*This is a new program and does not have a birth center for on site training at this time. We will assist you in finding a preceptor near you, so that you may complete the PEP process with NARM, or North American Registry of Midwives. Check the laws and rules in your own state and see if PEP, or Portfolio Evaluation Process, will work for you (sorry Florida!). If birth centers or busy homebirth practices become open to placing students, we will work toward opportunities for you!
My Approach
Create an online learning environment that is workable for busy students. I will keep recorded lessons to under 10 minutes, assignments are focused on core topics and situations a midwife will encounter in their real work, and courses have been designed to build knowledge and move you forward, not keep you more busy.
2025
Year 1 of our new three year program drops! More labor and delivery units have closed in Kansas and bigger changes are expected nationwide in 2027. Mothers are being turned away for prenatal care right now in Tennessee. Start your education now to protect your community later.
2026-27 CE for midwives & nurses (we will apply for both Meac + KSBON credit)
Preeclampsia & Distance to Care with case reviews.
OOH Maternal Hemorrhage & Staying Ready with case reviews.
